World Champions Turn Cruise Control Off! Can Shaun Murray, Freddy Krueger and Family Hit 19.03?!

I bet you take cruise control for granted. I know I do! Freddy Krueger holds a world jumping record and is one of the biggest names in the sport, and I've won some world titles along the way myself. His wife Karen Truelove is one of the best female slalom skiers in the world. Their son Dash is an up-and-coming jumper who's never driven a boat without cruise control in his life — this was his first real experience with what driving used to be like before automatic speed control existed. You know, back in the olden days. It's not just about the numbers either. Ask any couple who's skied together how many arguments cruise control has saved. So we put it to the test. I joined Freddy, Karen, and Dash to see if any of us could match Zero Off's precision by hand. The course is 1200 feet. Zero Off holds 30.4 mph, which accounts for a skier and comes out to 19.01 seconds — 19.03 is the actual time. Each of us tried to match that manually, and the difference of even a few tenths of a second showed exactly why accurate speed control matters, not just for slalom skiing but for wakeboarding and wake surfing too, where a boat running 11.1 versus 11.3 changes the entire feel of the wake. Freddy and I also get into the history of cruise control on ski boats, when it first showed up, and why it's become essential equipment on the water. Beyond accuracy, it's what lets a driver actually relax at the helm and stay focused on their rider instead of locked onto a speedometer the whole set.
